Translations & Legalisations Service
TRANSLATIONS
The Royal Thai Consulate in Hull provides a service for translating Thai documents into English language
and English documents into Thai language.
This is a chargeable service and the fee varies according to the complexity and size of the document(s).
For documents which include a person?s name, such as birth or marriage certificate, it is important to provide us with that name in full as it is not always possible to translate a person?s full name accurately.
Documents for translation can be posted, faxed or e-mailed to us. We then revert advising the fee. If our fee is accepted the translation is usually completed within 2-3 days and the document is posted to you.
LEGALISATIONS
We also provide a legalisation service which is the final process of making a document in English language
legally valid under Thai law.
Legalisation of a document does not include authenticating that everything contained in the document is true and correct. It is the responsibility of the person or organisation requiring the legalisation to ensure that all other processes, necessary to ensure that the document achieves what it is meant to, have been fully completed before presenting the document for legalisation at the consulate. For example, it may be necessary for the document to be approved by a UK government body or it may be necessary to swear an oath in the presence of a Notary Public that a document is true and correct in every respect, or that it is a genuine copy of the original, etc, etc.
Generally, in the UK, the consulate legalises only documents which are in the English language so, if a document for legalising is in Thai language only it is the responsibility of the person requiring the document to be legalised to provide the original Thai document and an authenticated translation into English.
The standard fee for legalising a single one-page document is £28. Fees for legalising more than one document are quoted on request.
Standard legalisation fees apply to birth certificates, marriage certificates, divorce certificates and death certificates. It may be necessary to charge a higher fee for more complicated documents and for multi-page documents.
Generally, it is possible to post to us documents for legalisation, we recommend Royal Mail Special Delivery. You are also responsible for the cost of the legalised documents to be posted back to you and the Special Delivery fee for that is usually £6 (within the UK). It is also possible to visit us in person to have a document legalised but please note that for this 'fast-track service' there is an additional fee of £10.
Legalisations submitted by post are usually processed within 2-3 days of being received. Legalisations submitted in person are usually processed within 30 minutes. If applying in person please contact us by telephone or email to book an appointment.
