Translations & Legislations

TRANSLATIONS

The Royal Thai Consulate in Hull provides an official service for translating Thai documents into English language and English documents into Thai language.
This is a chargeable service and the fee varies according to the complexity and size of the document.
For documents such as birth certificate or marriage certificates which include a person’s name it is important to provide us with names in English or in Thai as appropriate because it is not always possible to translate person’s names accurately.
In certain instances it is also necessary for a translated document to be legalised – see below.
Documents for translation can be posted or e-mailed to us. If e-mailing to us and there is information on both sides of the document please ensure you scan both sides. We will usually revert within 24 hours of receiving a document for translation and advise the fee. If our fee is accepted the translation is usually completed within 2-3 days and the completed document is returned to you. We recommend using Royal Mail Special Delivery for the posting of valuable documents to us. We will usually use Royal Mail Special Delivery for sending documents, etc to you.
Please note that we are not able to provide a "fast-track while you wait service" for translations

LEGISLATIONS

We provide a legalisation service which is the final process of making a document in English or Thai language legally valid.
Legalisation of a document does not mean we are authenticating the contents of the document. It is the responsibility of the person or organisation requiring the legalisation to ensure that all other processes necessary to ensure that the document achieves what it is meant to have been fully met. For example, it may be necessary for the document to be approved by a UK government body or it may be necessary to swear an oath in the presence of a Notary Public that a document is true and correct in every respect.
Generally, in the UK, the consulate legalises only documents which are in the English language so, if a document for legalising is in Thai language only it is the responsibility of the person requiring such a document to be legalised to provide the original Thai document and an authenticated translation into English or to provide the Thai document and request us to provide a certified translation (for a fee).
The standard fee for legalising a single one-page document is £28. Standard legalisation fees apply to birth certificates, marriage certificates, divorce certificates and death certificates. Our fees for legalising more than one document or for legalising a multi-page document are quoted on request.

Documents for legalising can be submitted by post or in person. If posting to this office documents for legalisation we advise using Royal Mail Special Delivery. Allow 3-4 days for processing before we post the document back to you.
If wishing to apply in person (legalisations only) it is necessary to book an appointment for our “fast-track service” which means you are dealt with on arrival. There is a fee of £10 over and above the legalisation fee for this service which is usually completed within 30 minutes.

CERTIFICATIONS

The Royal Thai Consulate provides a certification service for such things as certifying a true copy of a document or certifying a signature. If you require a certified true copy of an original document you will need to provide us with the original document.
