A personal welcome from The Royal Thai Consulate in Hull (UK).

The first Consular Office in the UK for Thailand was opened in Hull in 1922. Known then as the Siamese Legation, the first Consul was my great uncle Sir James Bell, a prominent ship owner of those times. The second Consul in Hull was Allan Bell, younger brother of Sir James Bell. Allan Bell held office from 1948 until 1964 when he was succeeded by his cousin Arthur Taylor (my father). I was appointed Hon Vice-Consul in 1981 and promoted to full Hon Consul in 2003.

As is evident, my family has been involved with Thailand for many years during which time we have held a deep-rooted responsibility for helping the people of both the UK and Thailand to understand and work alongside each other.

Thailand has changed considerably since my great-uncle took office many years ago. Today Thailand is one of the fastest growing countries in the world.

Those of you who have visited Thailand as tourists will know what a fascinating country it really is. Those of you interested in doing business with Thailand will realise what tremendous opportunities there are.

The main role of the Consulate office is:

a) To endeavour to provide accurate and timely information to all enquirers.

b) To assist with all Visa Requirements.

c) To facilitate enjoyment of the tourist treasures of Thailand .

d) To assist businesses success in Thailand .

To assist me in this task I invite you to comment on your visits to and/or dealings with Thailand and to provide constructive suggestions on how this office can provide a better service - please refer to our guest book.

Thank you

Alan Taylor
Hon Consul of Thailand at Hull
